On April 19th, 2025
                Chapter 485 held a Spring Young Eagles Rally at Roscoe field (82J) in Pensacola.

  We flew 36 Young Eagles. We had 6 airplanes and pilots, and 18 ground volunteers. All kids were excited about their Young Eagles flights.  See the  slideshow of the Planes and Young Eagles that flew that day as well as the Pilots that flew them.

 

In December 2024 and January 2025
                Chapter members installed a new Heat Pump in the clubhouse.

  Nine chapter members contributed many hours to the installation of a new Heat Pump in the clubhouse. John McKiernan headed up the project. For more details, click on the photo.

                Chapter 485 member Tanner Matheny was featured in a recent EAA eHotline article.

On Oct. 19th, 2024
                Chapter 485 held a Young Eagles Rally at Roscoe field (82J) in Pensacola.

 We had a wonderful rally Saturday. The weather could not have been nicer with blue skies and light winds all day. See the video and slideshows of the Planes and Young Eagles that flew that day as well as the Pilots that flew them.

 

On Sep. 21st, 2024
                Chapter 485 held its first-ever Flying Start event.

 This program is for adults voicing an interest in learning to fly. Four adults got a thorough briefing from Eric Goldman, then four chapter pilots flew them to PQL for lunch and back. A formation three-ship photo op enroute added to the fun for our clients. President Ralph Moser offered some concluding remarks and advice.

 

On June 15th, 2024
                We held a Chappie James Young Eagles Rally.

 We successfully flew 14 Chappie James Flight Academy graduates, all were first time Young Eagles. All kids were excited about there flights with Young Eagles despite the hot weather, which led to bumpy rides. All students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next opportunity. s. Check out the event and news article photos on the left.

 

On April 27th, 2024
                A special presentation was made at the “Barker Boil” at Shields Airpark. FAA Birmingham FSDO representative Billy Hattaway presented DeWitt Barker with the prestigious Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award, for 50+ years as an A&P mechanic.

 Since DeWitt also received the 50-year Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in September 2023, he becomes one of less than 1000 pilots in the USA to receive both awards. Check out the event and news article photos on the left.

                    We held a Young Eagles Rally at Roscoe field (82J) in Pensacola.

  We held our first Young Eagles Rally of the year at Roscoe field (82J) in Pensacola.
All kids were excited about there Young Eagles flights.

On March 23, 2024 
                    Roscoe Field hosted a Pancake Breakfast.

  A great time was had by all that could attend. Blustery winds and low ceilings kept most aircraft away.

On Feb. 10, 2024 
                   We held our annual meeting at the Museum of Naval Aviation.

  It was very well attended. Drano conducted another outstanding tour of the museum.

  We flew Young Eagles that day. All kids were excited about there Young Eagles flights. The weather was co-operating. All the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next opportunity.

                   DeWitt Barker and Ralph Moser received the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.

  BHM FSDO FAAST member and EAA 485 member Jordan Shaw presented the awards to Both DeWitt and Ralph at our EAA Chapter 485 monthly meeting.

 

On Sept. 9th, 2023
                    Mike “Vac” Vacarro's Prize-winning Angle-of-Attack system presentation.

  Mike “Vac” Vacarro gave a presentation on his EAA Founders Innovation Prize-winning Angle-of-Attack system for experimental aircraft. He gave us all a great tutorial on angle-of-attack.

                    Our chapter held a very successful Young Eagle Rally at Ferguson Airport with 19 Young Eagles flown with 7 planes and over 15 ground volunteers!
