Ray Scholar Day, 3/12

First off we'd like to thank our many volunteers for helping conduct a very successful event. Including EAA Chapter 1209 from St. Elmo and Chapter 416 from Roy E Ray for providing great Pancake and Sausage breakfasts Saturday and Sunday.

The outcome depended on the last day yesterday where 19 flights were flown by Capt. Bill Sleeper filled to max capacity with passengers. Every one of those flights had an occupant in the right seat up front. The aircraft flew past 1800hrs to accommodate booked passengers. We did have to shutdown the ticketing in mid afternoon which is regretful but we knew we would be getting very close to sunset. We had to turn people away since it would have run us into dark.

On Saturday due to very strong gusty winds we couldn't launch the aircraft. On Friday we had poor weather until the afternoon. We don't know the total number of passengers flown but there were 26 total flights conducted with all of them full. Our guess is over 250 passengers.

Without Continental Motors there wouldn't have been an event. We can't say enough about the generosity and hospitality we received from the good folks at Sonny Callahan airport.

We'd like to thank the ticketing crew of Rich and Yvonne Desjardens who did an excellent job of paperwork during the event. It didn't look easy having passengers fill out forms, take money, make passenger manifests and as things got really busy start swapping passengers from a later flight to the next flight due to absent passengers. That required changing the manifest. Then they had more paperwork to do even working while the last passengers unloaded. Our hats are off to them.

Captain Bill Sleeper was outstanding and just kept ticking along. At the end of the day I count 70 engine starts and shutdowns. How's that for a stat? Thank You Captain Bill!

Duane Thiessen "Drano the Magnificent" our event coordinator briefed almost every passenger riding the "Tin Goose" and each and everyone went flying with way more than just a safety briefing. He was in his element. Thanks to Ralph Moser and Wes Jordan, we had a huge manpower participation everyday. Mark Rogers provided logistic support with stanchions and coordinated the moving our tables and chairs setup and teardown. Everyone worked hard and a lot of planning produced a very successful event.
